A new iPhone and Android app, called 8700, has been created by The NSW Food Authority to complement their 8700kJ campaign.
The 8700 app calculates your estimated daily kilojoule requirement, then helps you make healthier choices at fast-food and snack food chains. You can find the kilojoule count of more than 3000 menu items on the app, and it will calculate each item as a percentage of your recommended daily kilojoule intake. It’s available free from iTunes and Android Marketplace – and is definitely handy for anyone on the go! Currently, it’s only compulsory for fast-food and snack food chains in NSW to display the kilojoule counts of menu items, but some larger chains are making the move nationally.
